Visiting Portland

Portland is the most western of Victoria’s major coastal towns and is the only deep-water port between Melbourne and Adelaide.  It was the first permanent settlement in Victoria, founded by the Henty brothers in 1834.  Today, it is an important industrial and commercial centre and also a popular summer resort.  Great beaches, surfing, fishing and outstanding coastal and forest scenery make it an excellent holiday location.  There are a number of short walks, self-guiding tours and for the more energetic, the Great South West Walk is a 250 km track that begins and ends in Portland travelling through national parks and state forests to Discovery Bay and Cape Nelson.  The walk can be completed in stages.

Portland offers a great range of activities. Fantastic beaches, fishing, Whale watching, tours of aboriginal sites, shopping, history and botanical gardens.
Portland has a great range of restaurants, cafes and take away food options as well as local shopping for those who prefer to self cater, we are sure you will be able to find all your culinary needs.
